Synopsis:
A total of 667  completed schemes have been handed over to WUAs. These are expected to serve 19836.6 with gross command area of 37382.807 Ha and benefit more than 52006 users.
A total of 806 registered WUAs representing for more than 69644 beneficiaries have been formed that are participating in planning, supervision and Management, Operation and Maintenance (MOM) of schemes. Among various beneficiaries, women account for 13 %, tribal for 11% and small and marginal farmers account for 79%. The members in almost all the schemes have contributed member fees indicating their interest to operate and maintain the schemes.
In order to diversify and introduce water management practices, the project has supported 9088 agriculture demonstrations covering 4546.26 Ha, 8603 horticulture demonstrations covering 1187.69 Ha and 337 fisheries demonstrations.
Supported by The project development objective is to enhance agricultural production of small and marginal farmers in the project area. This would be achieved through Strengthening community-based institutions i.e. Water User Association (WUA) on irrigation management, operation and maintenance, Construction and development of minor irrigation schemes (surface & ground water). Support to agricultural development, including provision of agricultural services, encouraging crop diversification and use of new technologies, and creating income generating opportunities. generating opportunities.
